In response to the intensification of the marriage equality conversation in Washington, DC, a group of clergy has gathered to raise a faithful voice in support of marriage equality for same-gendered couples and to call for a respectful and loving dialogue on this issue in the District.
This "Steering Committee" of roughly 2 dozen religious leaders represents a broad coalition of many races, cultures, and denominations, representing institutions in every ward in the District
We invite you to join us by declaring your faithful support of marriage equality!
To sign on here's all you have to do:
1. Read the "Declaration of Religious Support for Marriage Equality" If you are in agreement with our statement, then please sign on by filling out the form below!
2. To be a co-signer of the "Declaration" you must be a member of the clergy or a religious leader who either a) serves a religious institution in the District of Columbia, or b) resides in the District of Columbia. Right now we are intentionally limiting co-signers to DC-based clergy, since our declaration specifically relates to the struggle for marriage equality in the District.
3. Please let us know the correct spelling of your name and how you want to be identified. If you serve a religious institution in DC, then please provide the full name of that institution. (Institutional affiliations are included for identification purposes only.) If you reside in DC but don't serve an institution here, then you can identify yourself in another way, such as denominational affiliation.
Examples of Listing for Religious Leader who serves a DC Based Institution:
"The Rev. John Doe, First Church of Christ" or "Rabbi Jane Doe, Temple Israel"
Example of Listing for Religious Leader who resides in DC but does not serve a DC based institution:
"The Rev. Jane Doe, American Baptist Minister"
